From Oberon, take O'Connell Road towards Bathurst. After 22km O'Connell village is reached. Turn right into the Tarana-O'Connell Road which passes Flat Rock on the Fish River and arrives at Tarana village,18km from O'Connell. Continue towards Lithgow with the granite outcrops of Evans Crown Nature Reserve rising to the south. To explore these, you can turn right into Honeysuckle Falls Road, park at the signposted entry to the reserve, and take a short, steep track up to the domes. Back on the main trail, continue past the village of Sodwalls to a complex junction 14km from Tarana. Magpie Hollow Road takes off here and leads down to Lake Lyell, where you can camp, boat, fish and canoe. The road continues over the dam (on the Coxs River) and up to the Great Western Highway on Lithgow's outskirts. Turn left to proceed northwards on The Greater Blue Mountains Drive.
